This week for Episode 65 of The What’s Going On Show we have Abby Jones<\/a> of Connors Toy Library<\/a>.

After Abby became a first time mum she started volunteering at Connors to join a community and battle isolation. The supportive team at Connors helped Abby realise she wasn’t alone and other parents had similar experiences as her. Abby took it upon herself to work with children and later become the CEO at Connors to drive the charity to a brighter future and carry on the legacy.

After spending his life being someone who has a real passion for historical facts, it wasn’t until John went to Albania on a walking tour where he decided to adopt the idea. This week for Episode 59 of The What’s Going On Show we have Dr Jodie Hughes<\/a>, the founder of the Endometriosis South Coast<\/a>, an activist and a Medical researcher.

After experiencing bad period pains from a young age and being gaslit by doctors and healthcare professionals, it wasn’t until in later life Jodie finally got referred to a medical professional that said she might be experiencing Endometriosis. Since discovering it she has dedicated her studies and life to increasing awareness of the medical condition with the aim of ensuring other women aren’t lied to and society begins to understand it.

In this episode we talk about what endometriosis is, the reality those experiencing it have to go through, the different stages of endometriosis and what needs to be done in society to address the lack of provisions for those suffering.

This week for Episode 57 of The What’s Going On Show we have Lewis Edwards, a man from Portsmouth who is going to cycle from Portsmouth to the furthest point in Indonesia.

Like many young people in their 20s do, Lewis went travelling to try and find himself. But unlike many other people in their early 20s Lewis was gone for 7 years and after he came back to the UK he decided to start his own foundation to help out people in remote villages access education. To raise money and gain exposure for his foundation, Lewis is embarking on a life changing voyage to Indonesia, from Portsmouth, by bicycle.

In this episode we talk about how to cycle from the UK to Indonesia, what things to consider when cycling that far, pushing the boundaries of what is possible and what it means by \u201cfinding your purpose\u201d.

This week for Episode 56 of The What’s Going On Show we have Callum Brown<\/a> of Blueboard Productions based in Southampton.

Like many young people Callum didn’t know what he wanted to do as a career. It was only until he went to college he found his love for cameras and storytelling. With no experience of making short films Callum attempted his first short with a few mates. After getting 8000 views on his first short film he discovered that he was onto something. Fast forward to the current day, Callum has now written, produced and directed short films, and an array of other visual content. Having just released his latest short film he has progressed to the point of being “One to watch”.

This week for Episode 54 of The What’s Going On Show we have Jo and Polly of the Portsmouth Skating Group. Jo leads a group of skaters who take to the streets of Portsmouth in bright coloured clothes and listen to groovy jams.

After Jo moved to the UK from Spain he longed to find a group of skaters that made him feel as if he were still back home. He finally found a group and he took to the streets with like minded people. Now Jo leads a group of skaters from all different walks of life. Everyone is welcome and it is totally free.

This week on The What’s Going On Show we have Matthew Foster FRSA<\/a>, the founder of The Parenting Network<\/a>, an organisation in Portsmouth that supports dads and the family unit.

Matt grew up experiencing adverse childhood experiences. After finding himself searching for love and acceptance he led a life putting himself into dangerous situations until he found himself in youth work and working in the third sector. Once he became a dad, through his work an d experiences he set out to start a support group for dads which later became what it is today – an organisation set on supporting the family unit.

In this episode we talk about adverse childhood experiences, becoming a parent, support for dads, being heard, battling addiction and turning negative experiences into positive outcomes.

This week for episode 52 of The What’s Going On Show we have Dr. Sam Gaines<\/a>, the Head of Companion Animals for the RSPCA<\/a>.

Sam grew up around dogs wanted to become a vet. She didn’t go onto become a vet but in her own words it was one of the best things that happened to her. She worked for the MOD as a researcher in the dog unit and later found herself at the RSPCA heading up all things to do with pets and their welfare.

Mark has experience in the art scene all the way from his school years. He has been commissioned for many of his pieces over the years across Hampshire and Portsmouth Football Club.
When Mark was young he discovered he suffered from some sort of bi-polar disorder leaving him feeling manic and experiencing episodes of mania, where he would hear voices and other things.
After Mark experienced his most recent episode of Mania, he looked into it more and is now in a place years on where he can talk about it in a hope to get other men and people with similar experiences to talk openly.<\/p>

This Week on The What’s Going On Show we have Omar Lagares Mahmood<\/a> of Open Ya Mouth CIC.

Omar moved around a fair bit when he was younger. With his alternative style he found himself writing poetry which started him off on his self-discovery journey. After going to a mature students college he found himself at Portsmouth University where he found the Trash Arts Community. From then Omar started hosting Open Mic events for the alternative community ranging from poetry, singing, live bands and magic acts. With his enthusiastic and charismatic demeanor he has increased the number of people who attend their monthly events and is a name in the alternative scene within Portsmouth.

Last night was amazing to see the youth of Portsmouth celebrated for all they have achieved this past year.

With URBOND<\/a>\u2019s youth ambassadors presenting the event it was truly inspiring to know that there is hope for the future.

URBOND<\/a> brought together youth organisations and professionals within the city to support young people and change the narrative of traditional media channels that typically highlight young people as the villains. More needs to be done to empower our youth and the Portsmouth Youth Awards did just that.

This week on The What\u2019s Going On Show we have Lara Kynvin<\/a> the Co-Founder of Hampshire & Isle Wight Speak their name suicide memorial quilt.

During lockdown Lara became ill and tried to take her own life. Lara is both down to earth and an inspiration for being so open about her story. With the memorial quilt, the aim is to create something to remember people who took their own lives.

Lara is a figure of hope for those in a dark place as she shows us that with the right drive and determination we can create a reality we are happy with.

Been a while since this was filmed and published but I went along to a screening of the film and discussion on the future of the coast last week. This was all part of a UK Research and Innovation<\/a> project led by the University of Portsmouth<\/a> and University of Greenwich<\/a> that aimed to \u201cExplore the diverse views and values of communities\u2026from our amazing coastal communities\u201d<\/p>

We kick start the project off with Ousmane Drame<\/a>, the founder of URBOND<\/a>.<\/p>

When he was just a child, Ousmane’s mother sent him away to the UK alone to search for a better life.
Going along the lonely road Ousmane met people from all walks of life, gaining experience and knowledge on the way. Fast forward 20 years and he has now built a charity that aims to advance racial harmony and diversity for the public benefit. Based in Portsmouth and The Republic of Guinea the charity is doing a lot to give people opportunities and chances of a better future.<\/p>
